The Wheel of Dharma is among the most significant religious symbols in Buddhism. It represents the Buddha's act of setting the Wheel of Truth or Law into motion.

This symbol has its roots in the story of Brahma, who descended from heaven to request that the Buddha share his teachings by offering him a Dharmachakra.

The wheel's eight spokes signify the Noble Eightfold Path, which is a core aspect of the Buddha's teachings.

Additionally, the wheel symbolizes the perpetual cycle of samsara, or rebirth, which can only be transcended through the Buddha's teachings.

Some Buddhists interpret the wheel's three main parts as representing the "three trainings" in Buddhist practice:

The hub signifies moral discipline, which stabilizes the mind. The spokes, usually numbering eight, symbolize wisdom, which is used to overcome ignorance.

The rim denotes concentration, which integrates and supports all other elements.
